Dear friends,

Eleven summers ago we met on the old 28 tram rattling up to Alfama, both pretending to read the same guidebook. One of us missed his stop. Neither of us has regretted it since.

So it feels right to come back to Lisbon to get married, and we would love you there with us. Expect long lunches, a ceremony in a garden full of jacarandas, too many pastéis de nata and a sunset or two over the river.

Everything you need is below: the plan for the weekend, how to get to Lisbon, where to sleep and a little card to reply on. Please send it back by March 1.

Three days in Lisbon

June 11 to 13, 2027. Come for all of it, or just for Saturday.

  1. Friday June 11

    Aperitivo at the miradouro

    Vinho verde and petiscos on a terrace by the Miradouro de Santa Luzia, a short walk from the 28 tram. Come as you are.

  2. Saturday June 12

    The ceremony

    In the lower garden of Palácio Aurelia, under the old wisteria. Short, sweet, and in two languages.

    Drinks on the terrace

    Sparkling wine, a string trio and the best view of the river we know.

    Dinner and dancing

    A long table in the orangery, then dancing under the lanterns. Shuttles back to town from 11 pm.

  3. Sunday June 13

    Farewell boat lunch

    A slow boat down the Tagus to Belém for lunch by the water. We will save you a seat.

What to wear. Garden formal. Light suits, linen, summer dresses, anything in blush or green. Flat shoes for the cobblestones.

Finding your way to Lisbon

Fly
Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport is twenty minutes from Alfama by taxi or metro.
Train
Coming from Porto? The fast train to Santa Apolónia takes about three hours, and the station is a ten minute walk from Alfama.
Tram
The 28 tram climbs from Baixa to Alfama. Hop off at Largo das Portas do Sol, five minutes from the palácio.
Car
Parking in Alfama is tight. The palácio has 20 spaces, first come.
